You can directly press the computer's power button to shut it down (best to do it while in the root directory), or you can use the software PowerOFF.exe for a software shutdown.

Right, using command-line software like SHUTDOWN or POWEROFF to shut down is very convenient. This is how I shut down under DOS every time.

Hehe... did the power supplies on machines that used DOS back then support ATX??? No way, right... you'd still have to flip the switch yourself anyway...

Anyway, every time I'm under DOS I use the SHUTDOWN command to shut down.

I use it too
shutdown r to reboot, shutdown s to shut down. |
