My English is not good. I finally found the FREEDOS website but don't know where to download the source code. How can I learn without being able to view the programs! Hope some expert can give me an address so that I can download it.

I have used both DRDOS and FreeDOS. Both of these DOSes are free, but FreeDOS has quite a few bugs, and DRDOS is very reliable.

I thought DOS should focus on development in industrial fields and embedded systems, and there's no need to consider the Desktop. Then the simplicity and practicality of DOS can be fully reflected. If most intelligent devices in the future are DOS based, that would be the blessing of DOS. I suggest the moderator can open a special column to discuss the development and debugging tools for DOS applications. Thanks!

Is the development community of FreeDOS open?
Why not just open a FreeDOS version?

Sorry, I'm new here!

FreeDOS can no longer be said to "have quite a few bugs" by now. Except for some programs that specifically make use of Dos Extender (such as the traditional Chinese Yitian Chinese system), most can run.

DR.DOS is good and very mature, but because its parent company always refuses to give up the copyright, no one can casually bundle their own developed programs and distribute them, otherwise there may be a possibility of being sued at any time.

http://www.freedos.org

On the left side inside, there is a "Software" column. Then "base" is the FreeDOS basic program. Entering it is the program's information. Usually, that ZIP file already includes the source code.

Excuse me, I want to install FreeDOS. How to achieve multi-boot under WinXP? Can it be automatically added to the boot menu like MS-DOS 7.10? If not, is there a way to modify boot.ini and overwrite io.sys and msdos.sys on the C drive to achieve it? I installed the XP system and it seems that I see these two files on the C drive, and they seem to be 0 bytes! I haven't installed FreeDOS and don't know the installation situation. I hope all the experts can give more advice!!!!!!

Nonsense. Most of MS-DOS is written in assembly language, which is lousy and has a commercial nature; while FREEDOS is written in C, but it's not necessarily good either. In my opinion, using free UNIX is the way to go.

Yes, we should play the leading role of FreeDOS in China, so that FreeDOS can be promoted and developed in China. It should be vigorously promoted.
Are you trying to sell the country? Go and see the software development level in India. I think it has probably already exceeded that of China. It's almost a national crisis, but you are still promoting DOS here. Do you want to use DOS as the operating system in future information warfare?

DOS is the most convenient, stable, and fast operating system. It is better than Windows. Windows 9X is just a software under DOS. I like DOS because I have a Great Wall 0520CH, and nothing can run on it except DOS.
