Personally, I don't think DOS is amazing or mysterious. It's just that after going through a glorious era, it can still meet some specific needs in the current and long-term future because of its unique features, thus continuing to exist.
Comparing DOS with Windows is ultimately meaningless. Because in this world, any comparison is one-sided. The seemingly powerful Windows actually relies on complete and powerful hardware support to be so powerful. An air conditioner is good, but in an area with insufficient power supply, it's not as good as a fan. Maybe many people will think this is far-fetched, but in fact, everyone exists because of their own characteristics. The weaknesses in one-sided comparisons may become advantages in another one-sided comparison. For example, between a radio and a TV, both are information media. A TV can provide both images and sound, while a radio can only provide sound. But why has the radio not been replaced by TV or any other media so far? Besides reasons like low cost, cheap price, and small size, there's another point: the so-called disadvantage is actually an advantage. Didn't I just say it can only provide sound? That's indeed a disadvantage. But a driver can listen to the radio while driving, but can't watch TV while driving! In this specific situation, the disadvantage becomes an advantage. It's really a bit funny to think about.
So, I hope everyone can focus more on practical research on DOS. Under the current circumstances, what can the small DOS still do for us? In what situations can its disadvantages be turned into advantages? If it's purely for technology's sake and to compete with Windows, it's like pitting Linux against Windows in desktop applications—except for personal entertainment, it doesn't have much practical significance.
