The reason DOS has ended up in its current situation, with fewer and fewer people using it, is precisely because there used to be more people using it. Everyone used MS systems, so Microsoft could easily guide users into being forced to transition within its systems.
----MSDos---5--------6----------7------------------7.1----………………
----win3x---------------------
94 ----win95-------------
97 ---win98---------------------
2001 ---winxp------
Application developers, if they want to use new technical standards, can only do so in new systems. Generally, old systems do not include new technologies, so there can only be more and more programs that run only on new systems. End users just have to follow along!
Microsoft's garbage demands that the world change!
System programmers guide the world to change!
Application programmers force the world to change!
We end users have already changed!
oldos is past
Xdos ……

I take the liberty to ask which country you are from and why you have such a good command of Chinese?

I am from Taiwan. Please give me more advice.

It doesn't matter. We Chinese never buy pirated versions. So it's equivalent to everything being FREE, hehehehe@@@

Most individual users in China certainly don't matter, but commercial users still do, right!

What does it mean to say that FreeDOS can break through the 640KB memory limit?

The following is a quote from Dark - Destroy on 2003 - 3 - 24 23:28:35:
Although I am not from your country, but I completely agree with what moderator Wengier said. I also like DOS very much. Although its interface is not as beautiful as Windows and its operation is not as simple as Windows, in terms of work efficiency, DOS is indeed more efficient than Windows, and it also consumes fewer computer resources than Windows.

What does it mean!? Not from our country!? Trying to split!?Hehe!

Hehe, DD is a Taiwan independence separatist. If it were in the mainland, it might have already been beaten up.....

I haven't used FREEDOS, so I don't know how compatible it is with MSDOS. After all, MS has such a great influence that everything has to be in line with it. I don't know if various DOS tools can be used under it.
I support FREE. At least it can't be absolutely commercialized, but pure free is also impossible. After all, the pure free one is just an individual form, and its conditions can't be compared with commercialization. More people engage in it just for passion and hobby. Therefore, only in the initial stage of the development of a certain thing is it free, and when it develops to a certain extent, there must be businesses to support it, otherwise, the high cost and energy can't continue. And for businesses, they will never do it without commercial value. LINUX is a very good example. Now it has begun to enter the charging period. Whether it's Red Hat, Hongqi, or Blue Point, it's not a free lunch. It's just that it's not as black-hearted as MS.

Wrong, DD is not a separatist for Taiwan. Last time there was a real separatist for Taiwan who posted separatist remarks in the "China DOS Union" guestbook. As a result, DD scolded that person and deleted the remarks. DD also said that person was a shame to Taiwanese people!

Then, may I ask what kind of position does DD take?
I'm sorry, I'm being presumptuous. If possible. Just treat it as a chat among friends, whether you answer or not is not a problem.

Alas... I think everyone has misunderstood my meaning... The sentence "I am not from your country" is not intended to create division. If everyone is unhappy after reading it, I apologize here. I want everyone to know that I am not advocating Taiwan independence. When I first came to this forum, I couldn't understand many simplified Chinese characters at all. I relied on Word to translate them. Later, Moderator Wengier promoted me to be a moderator. In order to serve everyone, I spent a lot of time learning simplified Chinese. Think about it, if I were advocating Taiwan independence, why would I do this??? Also, the forum is for discussing DOS technology, not politics. I hope everyone won't discuss politics here in the future, okay?? Thank you all for your cooperation!!

Regardless of whether it's a "Taiwan country" or China, as long as it can accommodate people, it's a good country. Actually, Taiwanese people might be more patriotic than Chinese people, but recently they have turned in some directions. Before, they thought there was only one China, which was the Republic of China, and among the people, they were more enthusiastic about the Diaoyu Islands than mainland people. Later, when talking about DOS, don't mention politics. Actually, no matter where we are, we are all descendants of China, that's enough. Politics is not something we play with; it's something for those old people to play with. The country is just a tool of the ruling class. Don't scold me, I'm scared. Let's stop here
