Replacing the MSDOS.SYS on the hard disk with the one on the floppy disk is almost there.

Make a WIN98 boot disk (can be made in WIN98), then boot the computer with the boot disk, and enter WIN at the DOS prompt to enter the hard disk's WIN98.

Just integrate my opinion with Teacher Mo's, and the detailed method is: make a WIN98 bootable floppy disk (can be made under WIN98), then copy c:\msdos.sys to the bootable floppy disk to replace the MSDOS.SYS on the floppy disk, then boot the computer with the bootable floppy disk, and enter the hard disk's WIN98 by typing WIN at the DOS prompt. You can also look at my repost: The second practical trick of Windows 98 about the other use of the bootable disk

Nonsense, try it yourself first.

As far as I know, the Win9x interface doesn't seem to be bootable from a floppy disk, but I haven't really tried it. If it's really not possible, then the name "Win98 boot disk" is completely wrong because it can't boot Win98 at all.

wengier, I have tried it. Following the method I mentioned, selecting a menu item directly enters the WIN98 graphical interface, and there is no DOS prompt appearing (so there's no need to type WIN). It's the same as hard disk booting, except that the floppy disk cannot be removed during use (because the boot files from the floppy disk are used).

In addition, I want to remind friends who are asking questions: don't talk randomly if you can't do it yourself. Everything should be done by using your own brain and hands. Don't just say you can't do it even after the method has been told to you. If you still can't do it, please ask someone who is more diligent to do it for you according to the method I mentioned. Don't blame a group of people just because you can't do it yourself.

yiyesong, I also tried it, but it didn't work.

First, I copied c:\msdos.sys to the boot disk to overwrite the original file, then started it. As a result, the Windows 98 boot screen appeared directly, and then it stayed still for a long time (it should be the problem after executing autoexec and then reaching win).

Then I changed BootGUI=1 to BootGUI=0 in msdos.sys, and added a line Logo=0 under , then started it. It entered DOS normally, then I typed win and pressed Enter, but it still took a long time to respond. I don't know why.

This bootable disk is indeed made this way, replacing the MSDOS.SYS of the bootable disk with the MSDOS.SYS of WIN98. The last time I helped someone boot up a broken 98 was like this.

Please have LanE check if there are any issues with your WIN98 or copy the MSDOS.SYS from another machine's WIN98 and try again. There should be no problem; I've verified it on several machines.

I originally made a tool disk, (boot floppy), and the last option was to boot into the Win98 window. The method used was to replace the msdos.sys on the boot disk with the msdos.sys from the C drive. It worked. No problem.
