As you said, it's still good to add pure DOS to WinXP. This is real DOS, not virtual, and there are no disadvantages of MaxDos. Before making the image, add a pure DOS to the XP system, and then you don't need to insert a boot disk every time you want to restore it.

What the LZ said is that you can add external commands in your DOS to improve the functions of DOS. Then, can the DOS booted from the virtual disk do the same? Can external commands be added to the BOOTDISK.img used by vFloppy?

Moreover, the situation that the vFloppy is damaged after the ghost recovery as mentioned by the several brothers upstairs, is it because it was backed up after the vFloppy was installed? Because I haven't encountered such a situation. I just have questions and curiosity, hope for an answer.

Personally, I use maxdos and don't use others. It integrates many drivers and can be used conveniently under DOS for things like USB, etc.
