　　 1. Fast screen response: when accessing files, moving the cursor to the beginning or end of a file, or flipping screens, the waiting time is extremely short, especially with long files, and scrolling up, down, left, and right is smooth.
　　 2. The operation commands are open-ended: aside from a few commands such as Esc key operations, the character search command (L"string", and the character replacement command (C"string 1""string2", the other operation commands are stored as a command set in a text file called PE.PRO. This command set file is made up of simple English phrases. If you study the PE.PRO file carefully, it is not hard to learn how to set keyboard operation commands. In this way, users can set operation commands quite freely according to their own needs, and can also use the D command to define keyboard commands temporarily. As long as you do not exit PE, the temporarily defined keyboard operation commands will remain in effect.
　　 3. Several files can be edited at the same time: when you are editing a file and suddenly want to modify another file, there is no need to save or access the current file first—you can directly load the file you want to modify. After finishing the edits, saving it, and exiting that file, you can return to the file you were editing before. How many files can be edited at once depends only on the size of the computer's memory space. When editing several files at the same time, files are accessed on a “first in, last out” basis.
　　 4. There are three ways to make marks: character marks, line marks, and block marks. These can mark several characters, several lines, or several columns within several lines, so that operations such as copy, move, delete, compress spaces, and fill characters can be performed. At the same time, the lines included in a block mark can be moved left (if there are spaces on the left) or right.
　　 5. Marked content can be moved or copied across files: after making a mark in the current file, you can then load another file, and move or copy the file content included in the mark into the newly loaded file afterward (copying or moving it to the cursor position).
　　 In short, PE and PE II are rare and excellent word processing software. When you press the F1 key, you can load the help information file PE.HLP and thereby obtain instructions for using PE. Once you learn to use PE or PE II to edit files, you will feel a sense of “doing whatever you want.”
