I still often play old MS-DOS games now. But since I upgraded my machine, a lot of games under MS-DOS can’t be played anymore. Some that I could play before now can’t be played either, and I don’t know why. Does anyone know? How can I fix this?

Generally speaking there are two reasons:
First, the sound card driver is gone. Newer sound cards generally no longer provide DOS drivers, so the game can’t find the sound card. You can try turning off the sound in the settings to play, or find the DOS driver for the sound card, or reinstall the original ISA sound card. Second, the game can’t run in a WINDOWS DOS window. You can use a boot disk to restart into DOS mode to play, or set the game shortcut and in “Program” -- “Advanced” select “Prevent MS-DOS-based programs from detecting Windows” |
