Making the boot disk:
Run MKFLOPPY.BAT and insert a blank floppy disk.
Files:
NETDOS71.IMG A bootable floppy disk with M$CLIENT network support.
MKFLOPPY.BAT The batch file for making the boot disk.
README.TXT(EXE) This instruction file
DI.EXE A tool for extracting the image file.
Additional notes:
NETDOS71.IMG is a standard floppy disk image file. Use DiskImager,
HD-COPY, or similar tools to extract it to a floppy disk to make a boot disk. It can also
be used directly as a floppy disk image file for a VmWare virtual machine (the file ex
tension is just different). It can also be used as the floppy disk image for burning a BOOT CD.
This boot disk supports the following four kinds of network cards:
RTL8139 ——a network card everybody on earth knows
AMD PCnet ——VmWare virtual machines emulate this kind of network card
Intel PRO/100B ——many servers and laptops have this network card built in
SiS 900/9016 ——network cards integrated on SiS motherboards
These two protocols are used:
Microsoft TCP/IP (uses DHCP to obtain an IP automatically)
Microsoft NetBEUI
Usage instructions:
After booting, the first dialog box lets you choose the network card type (press ESC to return to the DOS prompt),
and the second dialog box lets you choose whether to start the network (later you can run STARTNET.BAT
in the N:\NET directory to start the network).
Configuration notes:
If you want to configure network parameters (such as IP, workgroup name, etc.), choose
not to start the network in the second dialog box. Then enter drive N (the memory virtual disk) and go to the NET directory
to run SETUP for configuration.
Note: because a memory virtual disk is used, after changing the configuration do not reboot, other
wise the changes will be invalid. When the SETUP program prompts for the boot disk to be inserted a second time,
press F3 to exit (do not rewrite the AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files).
If you only want to change the configuration temporarily, run STARTNET.BAT
in the N:\NET directory to start the network. If you want to change it permanently, please copy the
SYSTEM.INI and PROTOCOL.INI files from the N:\NET directory to the subdirectory under A:\NET
corresponding to the network card type.
