For example, whether it is ACPI or APM or something else?

ACPI support can be checked by searching for "RSD PTR " in segment F000. If it's found, then ACPI is supported (assuming ACPI isn't disabled in the BIOS SETUP).
APM is even simpler, you can determine it just by using INT 15H—
mov ax,5300h
xor bx,bx
int 15h
jnb ...;APM not supported
;APM supported
