I boot my machine with a boot disk and load the CD-ROM driver, but when I put in a disc and it tries to read it, it shows not ready reading drive d: and the CD-ROM's sound comes in bursts, not a spinning sound. I'd like to ask, is this a hardware problem or a software problem, and how should it be solved???

It seems like a hardware problem! Also, it may have something to do with the disc you're using!

If it's normal under WIN98, then it could be a driver compatibility problem.
