If you want to give up XP and install a pure DOS system, first make a set of DOS installation disks, then boot the machine with disk 1 of the DOS installation disks. If your machine's C drive is a FAT32 or NTFS partition, please run FDISK to delete the partition and recreate it as a FAT16 partition. After partitioning, restart the system, then format it, and finally run the installer to install the DOS system.

Kinglion: Doesn't DOS support both FAT16 and FAT32 partitions? Why make him delete FAT32 and recreate FAT16?
As long as drive C is not an NTFS partition, please download "MS-DOS 7.10 full installation edition" here and install it directly. It will automatically set up dual boot for DOS and WinXP:

Sorry, by DOS I meant DOS systems other than the MSDOS 7.10 and PCDOS 7.10 versions provided by the forum. Since these two DOS systems were never publicly released, I have never regarded them as official versions. And when I answer questions, I always go by the last officially released standalone version. So this kind of situation came up. I'll be more careful when I post in the future. Thanks to Wengier for the correction.

Also, I don't know whether you've tried the new version of the MS-DOS 7.10 full installation edition. Its installation interface has improved a lot recently. When you have time, download it here and give it a try:
