When I reinstalled 98 on my machine, I did a full format.

As a result, after installing WIN98se, I found that when it starts up, the screen is full of garbled text.

But once it gets into 98, it becomes fine. In other words, it's garbled under DOS, but fine in 98.

Please, experts, help me out. I urgently need this! Thanks.

Maybe that garbled text is Chinese characters.

If the garbled text is Chinese, try to use English names for files as much as possible; that will make maintenance under DOS much more convenient.

Just use a Chinese character support system.

Maybe it's not that simple. He said he formatted the whole machine and then installed 98SE, so how could there still be Chinese files or directories left?

Then it would be best to post here exactly what is shown on the screen. One look and we'll know.
