Experts, there is something I don't understand, and I'm very anxious about it! I have a 486 computer. I forgot the exact CPU model, it seems to be a 486DX-266, with a 270MB hard drive and 16MB of RAM. In the BIOS I changed it to boot from drive C, that is, C:FIRST A:SECOND, and everything is normal. The A drive can also be accessed. But when I change the boot order in the BIOS to A:FIRST C:SECOND, it cannot boot normally. After the BIOS self-test, it shows: "STAGE1 STAGE2 READ ERROR". I'm sure there is nothing wrong with either the floppy drive or the hard drive, and I also replaced the motherboard with a new one, with no problem there either. So where is the problem? Is it a software fault or a hardware fault? How can it be solved? Urgently awaiting a reply!!!

Does that 486 support a 1.44M floppy drive? Hehe, I don't know which came first, the 486 or 1.44.

Does the boot floppy you're using boot normally on other machines? Can you make sure your boot floppy has no problems? Try another boot floppy!!

I've already considered everything you said, and there's no problem. So what could be going on?

Remove the floppy drive, still set to A:FIRST C:SECOND — what happens?
