First, your machine has to support booting from a USB flash drive. Next, please use the dedicated USB flash drive formatting program on your USB drive's driver disk to format your USB flash drive. While formatting, choose the option to make a boot disk, then restart and enter the BIOS setup screen, set the first boot device to USB-FDD or USB-HDD, save the settings, and then restart the system.

One condition was left out above: your USB flash drive must be a bootable type of USB flash drive.
