To be honest, I'd really like to know too. Anyone who knows, please say. I've mostly used 98, and have had very little contact with XP and 2000...

Right-click the drive you want to format, and "Format" will appear.

you can format anything except itself.

For example: to format drive D, right-click the D drive letter as shown here


Click "Format" and choose the file system format, either NTFS or FAT32, as shown here


Click "Start" to complete formatting drive D

Note: you must exit all programs currently running on drive D

If you want to format drive C, you can boot into DOS to format it, or boot from the CD and enter XP repair mode.

There are XP installation discs on the market now that come with formatting tools, go buy one.

Can the command prompt format drives other than C??

If drive C is FAT32, then you can boot into DOS to format C, but if it's NTFS then it won't work. Oh right! You can use PQ software! My level is limited, that's all I can say.

Use a Win98 disc! Boot into DOS, then format it. Of course, what post #11 said is right: it only works if it's FAT32. Otherwise you can only use PQ to format it. Under XP there's no way to format drive C. I've tried it N times.
