My computer has an MSI 845 motherboard. I made mdos71db into a bootable CD. But items 1 and 2 on the disc both cannot boot; only items 3 and 4 can boot into Windows. However, after getting into Windows, a K drive appears (the hard disk has four partitions c.d.e.f, two virtual CD-ROM drives g.h, and two CD-ROM drives i.j), named MS-RAMDRIVE. There are two folders on it, system and tem.. Inside system are addev, bootpart, chkdsk, command, debug, deldev, edit, fakedisk, fdisk, format, mem, more, ntfsdos,
regedit,smartdrv,srcboot,srcfat,srcmbr,sys,tree,vc,vc.mnu,vc.ovl. A message also appears on the desktop: “Performance warning: Windows has detected an MS-DOS driver named ‘DUSE’. This driver will reduce system performance. Do you want to view related information about this problem?” After checking it, it says that DUSE in CONFIG forces the use of MS-DOS compatibility mode, and compatibility-mode paging reduces the overall system performance. The system is obviously affected, and it crashes very easily!
Before shutdown, this also appears: Warning c:\windows\command.com! To exit Windows, you must first exit the program!
After entering DOS with the boot disk, I run hdddregcn under the Chinese character support system. After checking the hard disk and going back into Windows, I can hear the sound of Windows starting, but the screen is still stuck in DOS. After restarting into Windows, a Windows interface appears as if the graphics card driver were not installed. There’s no way around it, I can only restore with scanreg or ghost!

It is perfectly normal for a K drive to appear after booting DOS with that boot disk (if it did not appear, that would be abnormal), because it is a memory virtual drive automatically created when the boot disk starts up. The same goes after WIN starts. As for the performance warning about DUSE, it is obvious that you loaded the DUSE driver, and if you want to start WIN, please do not load the USB driver DUSE!!!

Clearly, you did not read the instructions carefully. Actually, if you want to start Win9x, you may as well use the following standard MS-DOS 7.10 boot disk:

Thanks! The boot disk made with that MS-DOS 7.10 is not easy to use; it cannot load the mouse and so on in DOS, so some software used under DOSG is not easy to operate, such as partitioning, hard disk repair, etc. Can you add another item to the 6 options in your MDOSBD7.10, to boot directly into WINDOWS? That would be a real super boot disk!

Booting directly from a DOS boot disk into WIN3.x/9x on the hard disk is not difficult. I have made this kind of batch program before, and it was very simple and easy to use. But I have never added it to the super boot disk, because I do not think it is necessary.

Moderator: I only wanted to personalize your boot disk a bit; I had no intention of altering it. If, on the basis of your boot disk, people could customize their own boot disks according to their own preferences and purposes, wouldn't that be even better? In fact, your boot disk would then be more open, and while everyone was modifying it, they would also be learning the technology. Wouldn't that be a good thing? For example, letting everyone know the techniques for making LOGOs, how to modify IO。SYS, and some advanced batch commands, so that people can learn about them. Then your website would truly become a place for learning in this area, and your site's reputation would become even higher!

Well said, everyone just wants to learn a bit

ghost.exe is an application program; it should be put in autoexec.bat
In s2, only himem.sys is needed, and win.com can be added in the corresponding jump in autoexec.bat.

I am a newbie, and I want to ask a question: how do you make a bootable CD? I have already downloaded the MDOS71DB program. Also, how can MDOS71DB be made into a dedicated utility disk for booting a USB hard disk under DOS? Thanks
