Although I'm not an expert either, and I don't know what the correct thing to do is. But I think converting them to files should be fine. If you don't convert them to files, the chains are already lost anyway, so wouldn't that mean something is missing? First take a look at what you have on your hard drive. After converting, see what extra things appear, and then study it slowly later.

I think you used the CHECK.EXE file to perform the disk check. You can use the SCANDISK.EXE file to perform the check. As for cross-linked files, I suggest letting the program repair them automatically.

Used chkdsk/f to repair it and restarted.
