I have WinXP installed. After entering DOS with a DOS boot disk, typing "format c:" does nothing. I want to format drive C.

Your DOS isn't DOS 6.22 or 7.0, right? Only DOS 7.1 or above recognizes FAT32 partitions larger than 2 GB.
If your C drive uses the NTFS partition format unique to NT/2000/XP, DOS also can't recognize or format it. You need to use DISKGEN or the like to convert it to FAT32, then use DOS 7.1 (that is, a WIN98 boot disk) to format it. |

I used DISKGEN to reduce the size of one partition, and used the extra space to create a new partition. But after installing WIN2000, when I click the original reduced partition it says that partition is unformatted or damaged (the other partitions are normal), and I don't want to format that partition because there are files in it that I want to keep.
Asking for advice. |

First learn how to ask a question.
Then talk. Change your post title to something better. For posts with this kind of title, in the future there may be only these three outcomes: 1。Nobody responds. (This is the best-case scenario.) 2。It gets moved to the chatter section. 3。It gets deleted. |
