China DOS Union

I installed WinME on C:, then installed DOS 7.1 on F:, and after that I could only boot into DOS. The F8 startup menu is also the DOS one, and no matter what I do I can't get into Windows. If I type win in DOS, it says this version of Windows can only be run by DOS 8.0 or above.
Does this mean WinME can't coexist with DOS?
How can this problem be solved, and make the two systems coexist with WinME doing the booting?

I'm the opposite of you... After I installed MS-DOS 7.1 I installed WINME, and as a result that OS LOADER I had been hoping and hoping for (the multi-system boot loader that comes with WINDOWS) didn't appear at all, and it went straight into WINME! I was so mad I almost coughed up blood...

WinME is not like Win3.x/9x/NT/2K/XP, it's a bit harder to deal with. So when installing MS-DOS 7.1, if it finds that WinME is already present in the system, there will often be a warning prompt. WinME cannot run under MS-DOS 7.10, and unlike WinNT/2K/XP it also doesn't come with an OS Loader, so if you want to make a dual boot, usually you can only rely on another boot manager to do it.

Moderator, what boot manager should be used? I've happened to run into this problem too, and I've already been struggling with it for a whole day without solving it.

A boot manager is a tool specifically used to manage system startup, such as SPFDISK, GNU GRUB, etc. Even the one in WinNT/2K/XP can be counted as a relatively simple boot manager.

While Wengier's setup files and changes to IO.SYS & COMMAND.COM make MS-DOS 7.10 an excellent standalone version of DOS with LFN & FAT32 support. Let us not forget that it is still the same DOS as supplied with Windows 98/98se and not a new and improved version.(at computing.net)

movenalnalby: I saw that long ago. It's Mick C's introduction and promotion of the “MS-DOS 7.10 full installation edition” on an overseas DOS forum (already released both in China and abroad). Note: it is MS-DOS 7.10 (MS = Microsoft, that is, Microsoft Corporation), not Wengier-DOS or any other name, so there is simply no such question of whether it is fundamental or not! Don't talk about things that have no real meaning. In fact, Win9x and Win3.x and the like are themselves just GUI programs under DOS. There is already a detailed introduction here:
