I want this CD to have the same effect as a Windows startup floppy (that is, it can boot the machine). Also I want to add some everyday software and DOS tools to it (so the space won’t go to waste). How should I do it? I’ve already collected the software, I just don’t know how to make it bootable. If I copy all the files from the Windows startup disk to the root directory and then burn it, will that make it a boot disk?

First use a floppy disk to make a boot disk, then use winiso to make a boot file from the floppy disk.
Next add your software into it, save it as *.iso, and use nero to burn it directly, then it’s OK.

How to make a bootable CD with nero:
First extract msdos71b onto drive A: and make it into a software boot disk; create a temporary folder under some drive letter, and inside it create a subfolder named boot, then copy all the contents of the floppy disk into boot. Since a CD has relatively large capacity, you can also create other subfolders in the temporary folder for your own commonly used tools, such as ghost, etc. Don’t save commonly used tools too deep in the directory structure, otherwise it will be very troublesome to open them under DOS! First- or second-level directories are best!
Open nero, choose the option for making a bootable CD, and proceed step by step, dragging the contents of the temporary folder into the burn file list.
Insert the floppy boot disk you just made into drive A:, start burning, and insert the blank disc. After a little while, success!
Using easy cd to burn it is the same. You can’t directly burn the contents of the boot disk, that way it won’t boot.

Go look for easyboot, that one is made specifically for the kind of CD you’re talking about.
