If you really want to learn DOS well, you must use pure DOS, but Windows is too convenient and you can't live without it. So, let them coexist!

This operation is somewhat dangerous! Only for experts to try!

Tools:
GDISK32, PQ For Windows, Win98 boot disk
Operations:
1. First, remove the read-only attribute of BOOT.INI in the root directory of drive C;
2. Use PQ to partition out a primary FAT16 partition (user-defined below 100 MB) from the front of drive C (actually, it is to make the real drive C). Note: It is to create a "primary partition" located in front of the Windows system drive.
3. Under DOS, use the Win98 boot disk to boot the computer, and use the SYS command to transfer system files
4. Under Windows, command line operation:
GDISK32 /BOOTINI /ADD /D:1 /P:1 /DESC:DOS622 /TIMEOUT:30

Why is it so complicated with this "method"? Making DOS and WIN dual-booting is very simple. Just download a "MS-DOS 7.10 Complete Installation Edition" here and install it directly:

http://newdos.yginfo.net/dosart32.htm

MS-DOS 7.10 is the latest and most practical DOS currently. Why are you still talking about which old version of DOS?

I'm using the GHOST version of DOS 622 because its files are relatively complete.

Moderator:
Have you ever tried setting up two primary partitions on one hard drive?
I recently made a software that can ensure that Windows is in a bootable state and call the recovery system. This recovery system uses MSDOS710, GHOST, GDISK, GDISK32, TW. That is, there is a second set of operating system on the hard drive, and this system is also on the primary partition, which is the second primary partition I mentioned.
I wonder if you are interested?

I've tried setting up two primary partitions on one hard drive. But one of them is automatically hidden by SPFDISK, and only one can be used each time during startup. The other can be used when switching primary partitions in SPFDISK. However, I only tested this in VMWare, and haven't done it on a real system yet.

Each hard disk can be divided into at most four primary partitions, which can be managed with the SC software. That's how I use it.

OK
Brother, I'm not very knowledgeable. What is SC?

I used PQ to create two primary partitions and added the boot files of WINXP under GDISK32 to make it similar to having a dual system.

There is a special point. To activate the made DOS 622, generally it must be placed in the first primary partition, but MSDOS 710 has no such restriction.

Questions:
1. I have the Chinese character display system that comes with PCDOS. Can someone tell me where to upload it?
2. How to write the config.sys file to call the precious upper memory so that the Chinese display function can be loaded without affecting the graphic display

I've seen a relatively troublesome method online. C: drive FAT16/win98, directly install DOS 6.22, change those three.sys to.dos, and use the 98 boot disk to sys it. (He said that it's also necessary to replace the 98's io.sys with the 95's, not sure if this is necessary.) // sc is system commander, right? I installed it once, and as a result, I had to start over with fdisk...

It won't be that only one can be used each time you start up. It can be set up. I'm currently installing three systems, which is done using SPFDISK's menu management. It's very convenient. You can choose which system to start up, and all partitions can be accessed normally after startup.

SC is: System Commander. The relatively recent version is V7.05.

A tool software that can execute different operating systems on a personal computer. It can replace the master boot record (MBR - Master Boot Record) of the disk with its own program, allowing users to install various operating systems on one personal computer. The number can be as high as hundreds (if the hard disk is large enough and there are enough OS operating systems!), and without partitioning the hard disk, so that your hard disk has the most complete partition table without being fragmented!! It supports all computer operating systems using FAT, including DOS, Windows 95, Windows NT, FAT32, HPFS of OS/2, NTFS of Windows NT, Netware...

In fact, you can do it with the boot menu that comes with WinNT/2K/XP or GRUB, etc. Just install "MS-DOS 7.10 Complete Installation Edition" to install MS-DOS 7.10 directly. In fact, MS-DOS 7.10 and so on have the best compatibility with the OS Loader that comes with WinNT/2K/XP.

Here's how I did it:
Partition n primary partitions: one primary partition for installing pure DOS - IBM PCDOS 2000; one primary partition for installing Windows; one primary partition for installing IBM OS/2 Worp; and another primary partition for installing Linux; an extended partition is in FAT16 format for exchanging files between each primary partition.

The advantages of doing this are obvious: You don't have to worry that trying an operation in one primary partition will damage the operating system files of other primary partitions. At most, you can reinstall this primary partition. You don't have to worry about running out of disk space. Now space is not a problem at all.

Just a personal view. Please give your advice.

fisherbear: The article about dual-booting DOS and Win98 has made it very clear. After successfully installing MS-DOS 7.10, you can directly type the WIN command to enter Win98. After all, Win98 is just a GUI program under DOS.

I'm using XP and want to coexist with DOS 7.10. Can I really install 7.10 directly in XP? Will it damage XP? That would be a disaster for me! If it's really possible, then how to boot XP under DOS? Please give me some advice! Thanks!!!

If you install 7.10 directly in XP, there will be a dual-boot menu at startup. Just select the operating system you want to enter. In short, they coexist peacefully.
