Recently I wanted to make a floppy disk image file with a capacity larger than 1.44M. My method was as follows:
Method 1:
1. Find a good-quality floppy disk, make it into a boot disk, and test that it boots successfully
2. Use WINIMAGE6.1 to make the floppy into a 1.44M IMA image file, test it in VMware Workstation4.05, and it boots successfully
3. Use winimage6.1 to enter professional mode, open the successfully booting image, convert the format to 2.88M, and modify the boot sector to WIN95, then save.
4. Test it in VMware Workstation4.05, boot fails, error message: disk i/o error
Method 2:
1. Use winimage6.1 professional mode to create a 2.88M image, and change the boot sector to WIN95, put in the DOS boot files io.sys, msdos.sys, command.com, test booting and it still fails, showing DISK I/O ERROR
A question for the experts: I saw both of these methods online, and supposedly other people all succeeded with them, so why do I keep failing? My system is XP
