I have a Nu8.0 (Chinese version) SpeeDisk which does not support long filenames, so it cannot be used under MS-DOS 7.10. Therefore, I ask for help from netizens. Thanks a lot!

In DOS, you can use Ghost to create a GHO image file of the partition to be organized on another partition, and then restore the GHO file to the original partition. It is extremely fast and has good results. But be careful when using it!! It is best to pre - compile batch files for backup and restoration, and then execute them. Anyway, I often do this like this.

1. If you install DOS and the WINDOWS system in the same partition, it is recommended that you perform disk defragmentation operations under the WINDOWS platform;
2. MS-DOS 7.10 itself is actually a DOS operation platform embedded in the WINDOWS system. If you install DOS in an independent partition and do not install WINDOWS system files, you don't need to consider the long filename issue. In fact, when MS-DOS 7.10 enters the DOS real mode, it also manages filenames in the 8.3 format. In this way, you don't need to consider the long filename issue, and you can use DEFRAG.EXE under DOS or other disk defragmentation software to perform disk defragmentation.

Tried it, but it didn't work.

1. I installed MS-DOS 7.10 and Windows 3.2 (Chinese version) in the same partition, but there is no "disk defragmentation" program in Win32.
2. There is no defrag.exe in MS-DOS 7.10, only a defrag.bat.
3. I found a defrag.exe from MS-DOS 6.22, but it can't run under MS-DOS 7.10.
4. Please give advice on "other disk defragmentation software".

Thanks!

Kinglion: What you said about MS-DOS 7.10 is incorrect here. MS-DOS 7.10 is an independent DOS operating system and fully supports long filenames. Please specifically refer to the article about "Pure MS-DOS 7.10 Complete Installation Edition" here and the relevant downloads:

http://newdos.yginfo.net/dosart32.htm

gwm: If you want to support long filenames (but not FAT32), please use the following "Disk Defragmenter" tool:

There are, such as DEFRAG that comes with Win98 and Win2K/XP, but none can run in pure DOS. If you really need disk defragmentation that supports FAT32 and long filenames in pure DOS, you can indirectly achieve it with GHOST.
