I found a webpage in the DOS beginner section called "Learning Information." Following the method taught there (the section on DOS features), I tried entering "TIME" and "DATE" to check the time and date, and entering "DIR" to view the drive directory. But what was displayed here was somewhat different from what was taught on the webpage. Then when I entered "MEM" to check memory usage, it seemed like nothing came out at all, completely different from the illustration on the webpage. What's going on?

You only just found out they're different? They are simply two completely different things.

Try entering start mem at the command prompt and press Enter. At that point, most DOS commands can be executed.

Let me correct that: at the command prompt, first enter a:dosver and press Enter, then enter a:mem/c and press Enter, and that will do it. But not all of them will work. (Note: a:refers to the DOS 7.10 boot disk)

Then does that mean that in the command prompt or in DOS you can only operate on drive C?
I tried to enter other drives (for example drive E), but it wouldn't work. Also, in XP's command prompt, is it possible to work with programs from "Assembly Language" and "High-Level Language"? Thanks everyone for your guidance! |
