One of my SATA hard drives got messed up because of an improper shutdown. I tried many methods, and finally found that under DOS I can read the data inside with readntfs, but readntfs does not support Chinese file and directory names (loading a Chinese-language platform doesn't help either). Is there any way to back up the Chinese file and directory names?

I also tried ntfsdos, but after running it, it could not detect the hard drive. I heard there is a program called ntfspro. I haven't used it, and I haven't found a download either. I don't know whether it would suit my situation.

Could you explain in more detail? Can norton2002 run under DOS and recognize NTFS? How do you repair it? It won't be dangerous, right? Thanks.

Is it SCSI or data?
Since you're not very familiar with this, I suggest you attach the drive to another normal machine and use ndd (Norton Disk Doctor) to check and repair it.
Runtime environment: Win9x/WinNT/2000/ME/XP. Since you need to preserve the data, that's why I recommend it. It has complete functions and relatively low risk. As for how to use it, there are too many introductions online, so I won't ramble on.
(ndd2001 seems to be allergic to long filenames!!)

If I could attach it to another machine, I could just copy the data out, so there'd be no need to go through all this trouble. My hard drive is a SATA hard drive, and the drive has a fault. When attached to another machine, it can't boot into the system.

Right now I can only boot DOS on my own machine and use readntfs to access it.

Not external.

My motherboard is KT600, the southbridge is 8237, and the hard drive is a 7200.7 80G.

Sorry, I didn't realize it was a SATA-interface hard drive. I haven't used SATA-interface hard drives, so I won't give you random advice. However, judging from your situation, saving the data first should not be a problem. Since you can read the data inside with readntfs, then you can use Ghost.exe to save the hard drive's data.
Specific method: first borrow another hard drive and attach it to your machine. The size depends on how much data is on your hard drive; it's best if it's larger than 80G. Then use Ghost.exe to generate an image file from the data on your hard drive, and save it to the other hard drive. After that, attach the hard drive with the image file to another machine, run GhostExp.exe under Windows, open the image file you just created, and extract the useful data.
What I need to remind you is that Ghost is very easy to misuse. It's best to ask someone skilled with cloning to do this. Otherwise, if you lose both the lady and the soldiers, don't come blaming me! Hope it goes smoothly!!

Thanks to this warm-hearted friend!

I've been playing with DOS since DOS 3.0, so I don't think I'm all that much of a newbie, but after I started using Win2000 I never used DOS again -_-, so I'm not familiar with operating on NTFS from DOS.

I also used Ghost before for whole-disk copying. But does DOS Ghost support NTFS? If it doesn't, then there's still no way, because I can't use Windows right now.

Also, there is a tool called ntfsdos. Have you used it? Why is it that after I run ntfsdos it's useless and I still can't get into the hard drive? Only readntfs works, but readntfs doesn't support Chinese, which is really a headache.

Ghost supports NTFS.
Make a system disk, copy Ghost.exe into it, and boot from the floppy.
The higher the version of Ghost.exe, the better. As long as you don't make a mistake, you can first try whether this plan is workable.
I think repairing the hard drive is relatively easier, with more choices. Saving the data is more difficult.
I'm used to using 98; I've only used XP and 2000 for a very short time.

I just tried using Ghost, and it can't get into my hard drive T_T

Looks like only readntfs can save my data. Is there any way to make readntfs support Chinese?

superdown:
For computer maintenance, relying on a single operation won't do; often you need to "use whatever works." Let me offer a few more ideas for your reference.
1 What is the cause of the fault? Hardware cause? Or software cause? What are the symptoms?
2 Has the hard drive suffered physical damage? Or is it just that Win2000 cannot start?
3 Is the whole hard drive NTFS, meaning only Win2000? Can you first sort out the C drive, reinstall the boot/system, or convert only the C drive separately?
4 Use "Yulang Piaoling"'s multi-function maintenance CD to boot (you can download it online), so that you can operate in a Chinese-language environment.
As for software, readntfs has no Chinese-localized version.
For repair, you can refer to: http://doshome1.51.net/cgi-bin/soft/show.php?id=124
