I have an old i486 machine, model epson pc486note as, a notebook made in 1993. The operating system is Japanese. Now I want to reinstall the OS, but I can't find a suitable boot disk. A boot disk made by Win98 won't boot it. I hope an expert can give me some advice.

To tell the truth, I can't rule out that possibility, but I heard that machines made through cooperation between epson and nec are compatibles. But when it boots, I also see the words nec 9800, so does that mean this machine has no chance of having the system reinstalled?

My guess is that since it's a 486, you can install English DOS and then load a Chinese character support system.

Thanks for everyone's attention. I've already tried DOS/V twice. Doing it the usual way for ordinary PCs doesn't work, that is, insert the floppy and reboot; the result is the same as with a 98 boot disk, no response. I can't read Japanese websites either. OP, try this..... use rawrite/winimage/hd-copy to write freedos98.raw to a floppy
