To All:

Very depressing, this is the third time I've run into this situation: only after making a post do I realize it is already completely worthless or contains major errors, yet I can't delete it... Then I edit it to say "Statement: this post has been deleted by the author", "Request: moderator please delete this post"

I don't understand why deleting one's own posts is forbidden. Is it because you're afraid a user's ID might be stolen and damage the system? But for people like us who have some self-awareness, it's really unfortunate!

About this issue, it's mainly because if there are replies from other users, it could cause everyone's posts to get deleted in a mess?

Even if you can't delete posts, you can still edit your own posts.

Re Wengier:

I think posts with very low-quality questions should be unlikely to get replies, right? And for posts where the replies are of high quality, I guess the OP would also be very reluctant to delete them. As for malicious deletion, order can be maintained through the administrators. And the reason the problem you mentioned occurs should be a limitation of the forum itself; 163 doesn't have this problem.

So could there be a compromise: allow users to delete question posts with no replies and reply posts with no follow-up replies?

Re mys:

Sometimes, the error in a post is on a fundamental level, and can't be improved by simple editing. For example, misunderstanding the original meaning of the question, causing the whole line of thinking in the answer to go completely in the wrong direction and misleading later readers. Do I really have to revise it as I mentioned above to "this post has been deleted by the author"?

If there isn't a good solution for now, then what you said, "this post has been deleted by the author," is still a pretty good method.

I personally think that for forums with a fairly large volume of fast-moving information, it is necessary to give users the right to delete their own related posts, even if that means deleting all the replies together; but for forums where the information flow is not that large, there isn't much need to provide users with the function of deleting their own posts—after all, forums need more information.

This would require modifying the forum source code...
Actually, the ChinaUser forum can delete the main post without deleting the follow-up replies...
Somehow somewhere I've got to choose.
No matter if it is win or lose.

I agree with willsort's view; I feel the same way. After all, I've also made some garbage posts. I really want to delete them. Please give it some thought, moderators.
