The following is quoted from Michael at 2004-1-2 19:13:10:
In what ways is TWAY better than CCDOS97? What is the latest version? Where can I find the full edition? The ones I found online are all stripped-down editions. Just a single executable file.
TWAY Standard Chinese System V3.1 Pocket Edition

Brief notes on TWAY 3.1 Pocket Edition:
==================================================================
TWAY 3.1 Pocket Edition has three versions: 96-12-25, 96-12-31, and
96-12-31 (final edition), with 96-12-31 (final edition) being the last one.
Main improvements:
------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Added dynamic Chinese localization for Windows 95 DOS 7.0.
2. Focused on improving compatibility with various versions of Windows. When switching
between Windows and DOS, and when switching between multiple Chinese DOS systems,
there is no longer the annoying garbled-screen phenomenon. In earlier versions and other Chinese
character support systems, garbled screens under Windows 95 were very obvious. This technology is achieved by installing a 32-
bit driver under Windows, and no extra files are added, so it still keeps the unique feature
of the original Pocket Edition as a single-file Chinese
character support system. In the Pocket Edition (96-12-31), the crash when switching screens
after DOS had run a DOS4GW application, which existed in TWAY V3.1 and
PDOS 95, was solved.
3. The style and color of the prompt line can now be selected freely; you only need to modify the corresponding
values in the TWAY.INI initialization
file. When the background color is black, you can switch between
a black prompt line and the standard 3D prompt line.
4. Memory usage has been reduced somewhat.
5. When used under Windows, if there is no EMM386.EXE (or QEMM.SYS)
etc. in Config.sys, direct screen writing and automatic use of the B000 segment can still be achieved
(requires the Windows driver to be installed).
6. The Pocket Edition adds VMODE display mode setting and SPVER Kingsoft SPDOS input method
interface emulation version number setting. For details, use the following commands:
TW /V /? View usage for the display mode setting function;
TW /SP /? View the Kingsoft SPDOS input method interface emulation version number setting function.
This solves the annoyance caused by not having the VMODE.EXE and SPVER.EXE utilities.
7. At system startup, you can modify the value after "TEXTMODE = " in TWAY.INI to use
other EGA/VGA graphics modes to simulate startup text mode.
8. In the Pocket Edition, the smart whole-character recognition mode from the original 3.0 version was removed
and replaced with the ordinary whole-character recognition mode.
But the accuracy of whole-character recognition has improved.
9. Since the DOS GB standard interface still has no practical significance,
this support was removed in V3.1 Pocket Edition to
reduce memory usage.
In addition, system environment detection has been improved, and Western-language
tab recognition has also been improved. There are many other
small changes, which will not be listed one by one.
Existing problems:
------------------------------------------------------------------
1. When switching into a Windows DOS small window, generally you must first press +F7 to switch back to Western mode,
then press + to switch into the small window;
but in the final edition, everything is already normal under Chinese Windows 95.
2. The 96-12-25 Pocket Edition still has a conflict with DOS4GW when switching screens;
3. In the 96-12-25 edition and the 96-12-31 edition not marked as final edition, under pure DOS with EMM386 RAM or
QEMM386 RAM mode, when used in the background of Western-language software with frequent tab recognition,
there are occasional crashes.
4. Except for 96-12-31 (final edition), when opening multiple MSDOS windows under
Chinese Windows 95, if Chinese is started in one
window, then the screen display of the other windows is abnormal. However, multiple 4-DOS windows do not have
this problem.
Therefore it is strongly recommended to use 96-12-31 (final edition)!
Installation method:
------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Create a directory on the hard drive (for example C:\TWAY), and copy the relevant files of
TWAY 3.1 Pocket Edition into
this directory. Add this directory name to the PATH in AUTOEXEC.BAT.
2. If using it under Windows, you should first install the 32-bit Windows
driver. This can be done by
running the following command (assuming the Windows directory is C:\WINDOWS):
TW /IW C:\WINDOWS
You can also directly modify the Windows system configuration file System.ini (assuming TWAY is installed
in C:\TWAY):
System.ini:
... ...
device=c:\tway\tw.exe
... ...
It should be explained here that because the driver in Chinese Windows 95 contains errors,
Chinese Windows 95 also needs this driver to be installed.
3. Create a Windows shortcut (icon):
First create a program group (for example Chinese DOS), then create a new program item, though of course you can also
create the icon directly in the main group or another group. Its contents are as follows:
Name: Chinese DOS
Program: C:\COMMAND.COM (or 4DOS.COM, NDOS.COM)
Parameters: /K C:\TWAY\TW.EXE
After that, you can directly click the TWAY icon in Windows to enter the TWAY Chinese DOS environment.
Usage:
------------------------------------------------------------------
Same as TWAY 3.0, but with the addition of +F11 prompt line style switching.
In addition, TW.EXE can be used directly to set the display mode and the SPDOS input method version emulation version number.
Use the command help TW /? to see the usage instructions.
Definitions of the various control keys in TW.EXE:
Right SHIFT (default key definition) Toggle Chinese/English keyboard state
ALT + F1 Activate the quwei input method
ALT + F? Activate the input method when an external input method is installed
