EMM386 can run after being compressed with DIET, but it can't display any text. UPX, PKLITE, etc. all can't compress EMM386.

Thanks, brother mys. Sorry, let me ask a newbie question. I tested loading EMM386.EXE and UMB.SYS on my machine, but there are always problems【the programs are not compressed】. The system prompts: EMM386 NOT INSTALLED-XMS MANAGER NOT PRESENT PRESS ANY WHEN READY... After pressing any key, when I use the enhanced MEM program to check, one line shows 640KB, one line shows 601KB. I don't know whether EMM386.EXE and UMB.SYS have been loaded. I put HIMEM.SYS, EMM386.EXE, and UMB.SYS in the root directory of drive C. There is nothing written in AUTOEXEC.BAT, and CONFIG.SYS is written like this: device=HIMEM.SYS device=emm386.exe ram device=umb.sys Also, how do I check the extra 100KB+ of upper memory after loading UMB? If convenient, could you post the contents of CONFIG.SYS? I only want to load EMM386, HIMEM, and UMB. Thanks in advance.

You should add one line: dos=high,umb Also, device=emm386.exe noems can likewise provide UMB, and can give 64K more UMB than the EMS parameter.

emm386 must be loaded after himem, DOS=HIGH can be placed anywhere with no problem, DOS will read it first anyway, so you might as well put it on the first line.

Sorry, one more question. When I use the MEM.EXE that comes with 98, the first line shows 640KB, and the second line shows 695KB. But when I use MI.COM, the first line shows 640KB, and the second line shows 622KB. I can't figure out which one is accurate. Also, how do I check the loading status display of UMB.sys【that is, the extra upper memory after loading】? Please advise. Thanks in advance.
