China DOS Union

The machine only has XP, the files are on NTFS, installed on drive C:, and both the CD-ROM drive and floppy drive are broken.

The hard disk only has the XP and 2003 installation files on it. I want it so that if the system has problems someday, I won't have to buy a CD-ROM or floppy drive just to reinstall the system.

Is there any way for me to get into pure DOS? What files are needed, and how do I do it?

Take a look at that thread, then use the method and software in it to make a boot disk and use it as a DOS system. I recommend using some boot disks that can access your NTFS partition; the one made by W should be pretty good.

You can find a floppy disk with Ghost and boot from it, then Gho the primary partition and important data to a later partition. If something goes wrong, boot from the floppy and restore it back, and that's it. Just a few minutes, at most a bit over 10 minutes, depending on the partition size...
