XP, 2000, and 2003 CDs can boot the computer directly and automatically begin installing the system. Could one of the experts give a detailed explanation of this process? What files are required in this process?

My purpose is this: I downloaded a longhorn4051 ISO image. Originally I could have burned it directly to a CD, then installed from the CD (I like clean installs). But after loading this image into a virtual CD-ROM drive, I copied all the files into a folder, and then deleted the image file. Now I want to burn a CD, but the disc I burn cannot boot the computer, so I want to find a way to restore it.
