You can check whether your motherboard and power supply can use the “keyboard power-on” function. If they support it, just set it to power on with a keyboard password. Generally it is in the Integrated Peripherals option in CMOS.

Thanks:
You may not have understood what I meant. My question is as follows:

In a setup with only the Win98 operating system installed, I load the DOS network card driver in autoexec.bat to enable networking. Then I run my own authentication program (based on TCP/IP). After authentication passes, I can then invoke Win98 and successfully start Windows. But the problem is when I install another Win2000 as well, I don't know how to deal with it. I want to implement large computer lab management (300–500 machines). And there are specific functional requirements for it.

I can't figure it out either. I installed 2000 before, but didn't use it for long before uninstalling it. But I think your approach is too one-dimensional. Even if it succeeds, installation and debugging would be too troublesome. If it is for controlling startup, hardware control by electronic means would be better. If it is for controlling usage, handle it under 2000 or 98. By comparison, for large computer room management, using hardware such as barcode identity verification is more reliable, and easier to maintain, right?

Hello everyone!
I have installed two operating systems, Windows 98 and Windows 2000, on one computer. I want to ask how to run an authentication program under DOS before starting the operating system, so that only people who pass authentication can start Windows 98 and Windows 2000, in order to manage the computer. The hard disk is protected with a protection card.

middy:
On the software side, I thought of a Trojan horse called “Guangwai Girls”. Its functions are extremely powerful. It can run on WIN98, WIN98SE, WINME, WINNT, and WIN2000. It can also start before “SkyNet Firewall” and “Kingsoft Antivirus”. With a little modification it might meet your requirements. Download one and use it for reference.

I think you can use the software SPFdisk to meet your requirements. My article “Creating Something from Nothing with Ease” ("Computer Applications Digest", issue 11, 2003, or on my homepage) has related explanations. If there are any problems, contact me again.

Hello moderator!
I went to your homepage and read the article you introduced. SPFDISK is a good partitioning program. I now know how to install multiple operating systems. But I still don't know how to first run the authentication program, then bring up the multi-operating-system selection interface, and then start the corresponding system according to the selected operating system.

You just need to install a multi-operating-system management program, such as System commander 7.05
