Some supplemental notes on USB hard drives - China DOS Union Forum

While using DUSE, many forum members wrote to report problems they ran into. Now I will give some explanations for these issues:
1. Do not use the DUSELDR command at the command line to load the device driver. I tried it many times; the device could be recognized, but the contents of the disk were empty. I think the likely reason is a problem with DUSELDR; after all, DUSE is a device driver program.
2. It is best not to plug the USB hard drive into the USB port during boot. Plug it in after booting instead. This problem exists on SIS chipsets.
3. DUSE supports many kinds of chipsets. I have tested Intel, SIS, and VIA, and it works on 586, K6-2, P2, P3, and P4 machines.
4. Also, when using DUSE version 4.2, a memory allocation error sometimes appears. I personally think this is an APM power management issue, and there is already a fairly good fix in version 4.4.
5. If the machine has more than 4 USB ports, there also seems to be a problem. One of my computers has an MSI?845?Ultra motherboard with 8 USB ports, 4 each for 1.1 and 2.0. Only when I selected in the BIOS to use just two USB ports could it successfully recognize my USB hard drive. Also, it may be because DUSE only supports the 1.1 spec and cannot support 2.0 ports. I don't have an 845E on hand for the moment; friends are welcome to try it out.
6. There are also some other USB device drivers under DOS, such as Motto?Hairu, but they cannot drive my USB hard drive; and DUSE also cannot drive my HP 8200e external USB CD writer :-(

My motherboard is an MSI 845 Ultra with 8 USB ports, 2 each for 1.1 and 2.0. Only when I selected in the BIOS to use just two USB ports could it successfully recognize my USB hard drive. Also, DUSE only supports the 1.1 spec. I haven't tried 2.0; friends with an 845E can give it a try. 3. There are also some other USB device drivers under DOS, such as Motto Hairu, but they cannot drive my USB hard drive.

According to its own documentation, DUSE supports USB 2.0. DI1000DD.SYS in Motto Hairu is the driver for USB hard drives.
