Can DOS 7.1 and WIN98 actually be made into a dual-boot system or not? Why is it that after I install it using your method, every time I enter 98 it says there is a registry error and that it needs to reboot?


Note: your method is to install 98 first, then install DOS 7.1, and during the installation choose 98 to be the GUI program!

I already said before that you have to first enter the path where WIN98 is located, and then input the WIN command. This method has been tested before under all kinds of different configurations, and there is absolutely no problem. But if you don't first enter the path where WIN is located and just input WIN directly (for example input C:\WIN98\WIN), then the problem you mentioned will appear.

Wengier, should I give up trying? Why is it that even though I followed your method strictly, it still says WINDOWS has encountered a registry error and WINDOWS will reboot to repair the registry for you?

Then I can basically be sure that there is a problem with the winbootdir path setting in the C:\MSDOS.SYS file. This shows that when you installed DOS, you basically did not follow the prompts to install it correctly. If this is the reason, please manually modify the winbootdir path setting in C:\MSDOS.SYS.

My WINBOOTDIR path is the current WIN98 path WINDOWS. Is there any problem with that?

Saying there isn't enough XMS is a BUG in Legend of Sword and Fairy itself; I already said that before. If system memory is greater than 32MB, this problem will appear. The solution is to use software such as XMSDSK to reduce the free XMS memory to below 32MB.

Isn't XMSDSK everywhere? For example, it's in that Super MS-DOS 7.10 boot disk.
