For example:
In the Windows environment
1. After installing software like Vobsub
2. Put the video file, for example: 魔戒2.avi and 魔戒2.srt (*.srt is the subtitle file), in the same folder
3. Just play 魔戒2.avi
Subtitle playback:
Put the .avi (.asf, .mpg, etc. also work), .idx, and .sub, or a .sub file already compressed into rar, or subtitle files such as .srt .ssa .sub in various formats like Subrip MacroDVD SSA SMI, with the same main filename, into the same directory, then use MediaPlayer 6.4 or a dedicated DivX player to open the .AVI file for playback. A DVobsub system tray icon will appear at the lower right of the screen; click it and you can choose various languages such as "Chinese" subtitles for playback, and you can also enter the DVobsub properties page to choose other subtitle files for playback (as shown in the picture).

If QuickView under Dos can play external subtitles and support AC3 audio, that would really be too powerful, and it would surely be welcomed by many people
Because then you wouldn't need a hard drive, you could just boot from CD and play videos
