My WD 20G hard drive can't install XP. Every time it gets to the hard drive check it hangs. When I try installing ME or 98 instead, the system reports CONFIG.SYS is invalid. The hard drive has been reformatted, and the partitions were also repartitioned. I hope some expert can tell me what is causing this and how to solve it.

But if I hook it up to another machine, it works fine, and checking the hard drive with tools shows no bad sectors.

Did you try using PQ to see what it shows?

Sigh! PQ can check and repair partition errors, it's much better than DISKMAN.

I suspect it's a low-level mistake. First, fdisk may not have been done correctly, maybe you didn't reboot after partitioning, or didn't activate the partition. Try repartitioning again. Second, check the coms settings and restore the default settings. Don't worry, start with the small problems and check them one by one.
