DOS 7.1 has no xcopy command. I borrowed the one from Win98SE, but it doesn't support long filenames.

You only mean that the DOS boot disk doesn't include the XCOPY command, right? Just use Volkov Commander or something similar instead.

After finishing my all-in-one game boot disk, I need to use XCOPY with long filenames, but it doesn't support them! How can I solve this? Is there any copy command software under DOS that can support long filenames (for batch file use)? Urgently waiting....

The XCOPY command that comes with MS-DOS does not support long filenames. If you want to do long filename copying from the DOS command line, you can try the CP command in GNU Tools. It can do it, but note that since this command is GNUish, some of its usage differs from ordinary DOS commands, such as being case-sensitive, and using - instead of / for parameters, etc. (for example, cp's -r is equivalent to xcopy's /s). For example:
cp -irv VeryLongFileName*.rmvb d:\
You can also try the XCOPY in ROM-DOS 7.10 or the XCOPY command below. Unlike the CP command above, they use the normal DOS syntax format, and they also support copying long filenames, but remember that they both have some BUGs, so be a bit careful when using them:

xcopy16 is used more or less the same way as the xcopy command in the command line under Win9x/2k/xp. You can view the help with the /? parameter. As for other copy tools under DOS that support long filenames, please see my post above, where I already mentioned several such tools including cp.

Indeed, Google is rather poor at searching for files. Also, Google has many other shortcomings and deficiencies. For example, in "Advanced Search" it doesn't even have an option to distinguish letter case—so dizzying.

Thanks, Wengier, wow, it's nearly a huge 60KB. That's too extravagant to put on a boot disk, so I'd better just use VC.

That ROM-DOS 7.10 boot disk indeed does not have the XCOPY command (only the full version does). I've now uploaded the XCOPY command from ROM-DOS 7.10:

This XCOPY is much smaller than that CP and XCOPY16, even smaller than the one in MS-DOS, only 10KB, and it supports long filenames, though unfortunately it has some BUGs.
Actually, whether this XCOPY or XCOPY16, both can be used as ordinary XCOPY commands. They just have stronger and richer features (including support for long filenames, support for more command-line parameters, etc.), so they should be fairly easy to get started with.
