How should I configure CONFIG.SYS and other files so that disk operations are as fast as possible?

My system is pure DOS 7.10, and I don't use it for anything else, just copying files is enough, but the default installed configuration makes disk operations rather slow. My machine is a 586 with 32M of memory.
