The Legend of Sand and Stone




Mr. A and Mr. B, two good friends, were traveling in the desert. On the way, they got into an argument.


Mr. B even slapped Mr. A across the face. Feeling humiliated, Mr. A said nothing, and wrote in the sand: “Today my good friend hit me.”


They continued on and came to a fertile plain, where the two decided to stop and rest for a while. Mr. A went to the river to fetch water, slipped, and fell into the river, nearly drowning. Fortunately, Mr. B arrived in time and saved him. Afterward, Mr. A took a small knife and carved on a stone: “Today my good friend saved my life.” Standing nearby, Mr. B asked him curiously: “Why was it that after I hit you, you wrote it in the sand, but now you carve it on stone?” Mr. A turned his head and replied with a smile: “When we are hurt by a friend, we should write it in a place where it is easy to forget, and let the wind erase it. On the other hand, when we are helped, we should carve it deep in our hearts, where no wind can ever wipe it away.”


The hurt between friends is often unintentional, but the help is sincere. Forget those unintentional hurts, and remember those sincere acts of help. You will find that in this world, you have many true friends... Whenever I stand beneath the tranquil night sky, I always silently think of those shining beautiful memories in my life, those happy times spent with friends and family. This world is truly wonderful.
