If XP is already installed but DOS is not, install “MS-DOS 7.10 full installation edition” to install DOS.

Send the “Command Prompt” in Accessories as a desktop shortcut
Modify the properties of “Command Prompt” Change the target %SystemRoot%\system32\cmd.exe to %SystemRoot%\system32\command.com Definitely works, |

Not bad, compatibility is much stronger.
Since WINXP has the command line interpreter command.com, can its kernel be extracted to make a DOS-like system disk? |

I prefer this in cmd:
C:\>command C:\>exit C:\> This changes the setting that way, and the compatibility is stronger. (It supports both 16/32-bit command line programs at the same time) |

Do you enter it in the Command Prompt under XP Accessories?

The following is quoted from mys's post on 2003-11-22 11:36:49: Just to explain, this COMMAND.COM in WinXP is a simple modified version of the COMMAND.COM from MS-DOS 5.0, so its functions are far less powerful than those of MS-DOS 7.10. |

What if you replace the one under winXP with the COMMAND.COM from MS-DOS 7.10? |

Question: can the “MS-DOS 7.10 full installation edition” here be installed in an
NTFS partition? My computer only has the last partition as FAT32, and it also has linux installed. Installing the “MS-DOS 7.10 full installation edition” won't damage the boot sector, right? If I install it in the last FAT32 partition, what do I need to modify so I can enter DOS? Right now my computer boots through linux into a LINUX and DOS selection screen! One more thing: you can use “NTFSDOS Professional Edition” to make a boot disk and read/write NTFS partitions |
