Sometimes after getting hit by a website, as soon as the machine boots it automatically opens that website. If you check msconfig--Startup, there is an item with that URL in it. You delete it, reboot, and it is there again!!
It seems to have something to do with some kind of “startup program”!
But what I want to ask is, after getting hit by a website, is it enough just to restore the registry, without worrying about whether there is some program? In other words, as long as the registry is restored, that program can only sit quietly on your hard drive and can no longer be “automatic,” right???

Not necessarily. Not every program writes things into the registry. For example, DOS programs do not write anything to the registry at all. So the registry places no restriction on them. For example, if I write a batch file with the following command: FORMAT D:/AUTOTEST. And put it into your startup, then as soon as you start the computer your D drive will be done for. Restoring the registry would be useless.

Also, software in Start Menu -> “Programs” -> “Startup” will also start automatically.

What is the difference between “Programs” -> “Startup” and “msconfig"-"Startup”?

Startup is a folder that contains shortcuts to some programs.
Those programs will start at the same time the system starts. And those programs can all be seen in MSCONFIG.
Actually, there are many different ways for WINDOWS to start programs automatically.
