I want to boot through MSDOS, and then install the system from the CD-ROM drive.
After looking up some articles:
they say to make an MSDOS boot disk first, and then COPY the following files:
MSCDEX.EXE ,HIMEM.SYS ,OAKCDROM.SYS ,SMARTDRV.EXE.
And edit the following contents:
AUTOEXEC.BAT
@ECHO OFF
MSCDEX.EXE/D:MSCDOOL
SMARTDRV.EXE
CONFIG.SYS
DEVICE=HIMEM.SYS
DEVICE=OAKCDROM.SYS/D:MSCDOOL
Question: can Super Universal MSDOS710 do "boot through MSDOS, then install the system from the CD-ROM drive"?
It seems there is no OAKCDROM.SYS in Super Universal MSDOS710?
Thanks!

OAKCDROM.SYS was long ago replaced by VIDE-CDD.SYS. Something that bulky, if it wasn't obsolete, what would be?

What system are you trying to install? If the CD is bootable, just install directly. If the CD does not support booting from CD, then copy the system to the hard disk and install it from there. It basically has nothing to do with DOS.

This autoexec file is too simple, isn't it! It can't do the job... it should be fully automatic!

What I want to install is winxp pro. I have already tried it on N computers. The CD in my hand does not support booting, but if I install some other system first and then install a dual-boot setup, there is no problem at all.
I want to boot through MS-DOS, then run I386\winnt to install it.
I am using Super ms-dos711, booting with the third option.
Then I go to c:\i386, (for some reason I don't know why the CD-ROM drive letter became c)
Finally the system prompts:
windows xp requres a hard drive volume with at least 467 megabytes of free disk space .....the drive must be on a permanetntly attached local hard supported by windows xp and must not be a compressed driive.
setup was uable to locate such a drive with the vequired arnount of free space .
Why is there such a problem?
Thanks Wengier, hunome, Master Rushi.

That message is saying it did not find a hard disk partition. Do you have a hard disk? If so, what format is it?
