4. Some motherboards now support booting from a USB flash drive

Are there any other ways to boot DOS on a PC?

Not too good, because installing DOS on a hard disk of several dozen GB is too wasteful, but putting it on a floppy disk isn't reliable either—you never know when the disk might go bad.

It would be best to make it into a BOOT ROM and burn it into the motherboard, like BASIC used to be.

There's also network booting.

warm: My 6.4GB hard disk is mainly filled with DOS (MS-DOS 7.10, ROM-DOS 7.10, and FreeDOS), plus all kinds of DOS programs (including X-Window, Win3.x/9x GUI), etc. It's already full now, and I can't fit anything more on it, so there's no such thing as waste at all.

I mean using DOS as a production system. In that case, you would install only a DOS system + application programs, and no other systems on the hard disk.
