Several people share one ADSL line, and the internal network IP goes online through a gateway. Internet access works normally under Windows XP.
I installed msdos622, msclient3.0, pwin32, and ie501.
After installing IE, it also forced me to create a dial-up connection.
Since I'm using ADSL, I changed Internet Connect in the IE properties from dial-up to local network connection.
Then under pwin32's MS-DOS mode, I successfully pinged the website address (www.xxx.xxx) and the telecom DNS.
But after entering a website address in IE's address bar, there is simply no response.

Does IE 5.01 not support broadband? Or is it some other reason? I haven't tried the dial-up method.

I switched to mslanman, and now there is some response. In IE's status bar it shows something like open page..., done. But the window itself is completely blank. Select, copy, and paste are all grayed out. The horizontal and vertical scroll bars are gray too.
After saving the web page as htm, I can open it with notepad and see that the contents really are that web page's contents. But why is it still blank?

I switched to winpkt again. Trumpet says TCP/IP loaded normally, and it also got an IP address.
But it can only ping itself. Strange!

Why is the DOS version so old, only 6.22? Its compatibility isn't good. Please try upgrading the DOS system.

Because IE 5.01 for win16 does not support Big5/GB2312/Shift-JIS.....
So it can't display the page
If you set the encoding to Western(ISO-1252), you will be able to see the page....... but then you won't be able to see the Chinese characters

Oh, so the English version of IE5 won't work, right? Does anyone have a Chinese one, or is there simply no Chinese version at all? If that's the case then I'll switch to IE4.

No, no, that's not it. It's not because it's English. I tried English websites, and it still didn't work.

Try upgrading the system first. Your DOS system is really too old.

I only have this DOS version.
I format c: and started over from scratch, using malanman, base. As a result, the Chinese version of IE3 got online successfully, but support for jsp and java applets is incomplete, and many web pages look terrible.
Then I started over from scratch again and installed the English IE5. As a result, the IE interface only showed a File menu; Edit, Favorites, and so on did not appear. Not grayed out, but simply missing altogether. Of course, entering a website address still got no response at all.

There is a download for the full installation edition of MS-DOS 7.10 on the forum:
