My machine is currently running Win98SE. Because of design needs, I need to install Win32 as well, that is, a dual-boot system. But the DOS version on my machine is too high, seems to be 7.1. And Win32 can only run on DOS 6.22 or below. What should I do? So depressed ing How do I install DOS 6.22? It seems that if I install DOS 6.22, it will wipe everything on that drive... the loss would be too great, I can't bear it. Could some expert give me some pointers? Thanks

Rename the extensions of msdos.sys, io.sys, and command.com from MS-DOS 6.22 to .dos, copy them to the root directory of drive C, then modify win98's msdos.sys (seems like changing one variable to 1) so that it has a "previous dos" boot item. Choose that item at startup and you can enter MS-DOS 6.22.

Windows 3.2 can run under MS-DOS 7.1. See this article I wrote: http://newdos.yginfo.net/dosart3.htm If the system has FAT32 partitions or the hard disk is relatively large, don't use MS-DOS 6.x. It also does not support long filenames.

You can use Michael's method, provided that your C drive is no larger than 2GB and is in FAT16 format.

But Michael's method is still not as convenient as directly running Win3.x under MS-DOS 7.1, and MS-DOS 6.x is obviously outdated and impractical now. MS-DOS 7.1 is much more powerful.

I agree with Wengier. I originally had DOS 6.22 + Win3.2 installed (using a separate partition), and now I'm using Wengier's method. It works very well.

Using a virtual machine to install it is OK. There are two kinds, VMware and VPC, both are fine. You can install anything inside them. Hehe...
