Quite a few people have now made Windows installation CDs with new patch packs and integrated utility software. But patch packs keep getting updated, and software also gets updated very quickly. Is it possible to make a Windows installation disk that boots from a portable hard drive? A portable hard drive has plenty of space, enough to hold all kinds of software, and it can also be updated continuously.

If one CD is used constantly, after two or three months it has to be replaced anyway... at that time you can completely update the contents a bit.

Isn't a portable hard drive just the same as a hard drive? Just put whatever you want into it, wouldn't that do?
If you want to boot from it, wouldn't it be enough to set it to boot from IDE 1 in the COMS?
If you're going to use a portable hard drive for booting, wouldn't it be better to use CD -RW instead?
For the price of one portable hard drive I could buy a whole pile of CD -RW!!!!

In the long run I also think a portable hard drive is more suitable. Even if the data on CDs is never used, after about 3 years some CDs can no longer be read. Because of this I've lost a lot of software. The lifespan of CDR and CDRW is nowhere near the stated 10 years in the design specs; everyone should take note of this. It's still not safe to keep important data on CDs.
