Purely personal opinion:
I don't know if everyone has noticed that most of the discussions on the current website are about boot disk issues. In other words, there isn't too much "advanced application" technology. The so-called "advanced applications" refer to the application of network technology. The current network technology is changing rapidly. DOS must get closer to the network to catch up with WINDOWS and LINUX. Isn't that right? Why can LINUX be ahead when both DOS (referring to FREEDOS) and LINUX are open and free systems? The reason is not only the constraints of DOS itself but more importantly, LINUX's network functions are far better than DOS. It can be said that any modern operating system will have little room for great development without network applications. The functions of the DOS we are using are that except for a few people programming based on DOS, others are just using it for system maintenance. Sad! Is this all there is to DOS?

The following are my suggestions:
First, start with novices, form tutorials to teach them how to install and configure DOS, then the installation and configuration of the Chinese platform, and the installation of DOS games. Reaching this point means a novice has entered the door.

For novices, the most desired thing is network applications, such as how to install and configure a network card under DOS, how to load protocols, and how to connect to the network. (Often many people get stuck here because those who just graduated from school or haven't applied it at work simply don't know how to do these things)

The following is the highest level of DOS network applications, which is how to build a WEB SERVER and FTP SERVER and MAIL SERVER (I just managed to do it). Reaching this step must reach the commercial application level. Only in this way can the commercial value of DOS be more fully reflected; otherwise, it will become just a toy for players.

For DOS programming: Everyone can continue to carry forward the spirit of freedom and openness, and provide relevant source codes and relevant programming technologies as much as possible. Only in this way can DOS continue to grow, instead of being just the strong point of a few players.

For DOS to develop, it is indeed necessary to play a role in different fields.

Support! Unfortunately, I'm not very clear about setting up Web servers, FTP servers (whether under DOS or WIN), so...

It doesn't matter if you don't know it now. I'm so green and it took me several days of research to barely be able to do it. As for network security, I haven't considered it yet.

I'm currently researching how to use ADSL with DOS. If it can be successful, it can solve the internet access problem of NETWARE.

Currently, many POS systems are based on this network, especially the management of chain stores. The communication between stores in different places can only be through dial-up over the phone to communicate with each other. This not only has high costs but also insufficient speed. Using ADSL can also achieve uninterrupted remote management.

I heard that DOS + JVM can also support JAVA. If it's really possible, then the value of DOS will be even higher.

I have Sun JavaPC 1.1 for DOS, which is the DOS version of the Java Virtual Machine (JVM). However, for some reason, it can't run.

There needs to be a relatively complete application solution...

Embedded system or WINCE is better

No, WINCE is better used in PDAs and other handheld computers, not good in embedded systems. DOS is widely used in industrial applications, but now LINUX has taken away the limelight from DOS....

Maybe.

WinCE is more suitable for consumer product applications.

Linux is a bit difficult to operate.

There are not many DOS application software, and development is also relatively difficult. The object-oriented languages basically cannot be developed.

There are quite a few new object-oriented programming languages emerging under DOS now!

I haven't been in touch for too long. Can you tell me what languages they are?

Also, I found JVM FOR DOS, but I don't know how to install it either

For example, Delphi for DOS is an object-oriented programming language, right?

Where did you download that JVM for DOS? The JavaPC for DOS I downloaded can be installed, but it didn't run successfully after installation.
