Since 2017, many updates have been made, gradually improved, and it's been another year unknowingly.

XHDD /P cache limit increased to 1.5 gigabytes (uses up to 48K of upper/DOS memory). Minor XHDD size changes. Other drivers remain unchanged, only re-dated.

Thanks to johnsonlam for updating for several years. I would like to ask. I use pcem 1.4, the latest version driver CD of xdvd2.sys. xdvd2 is normally loaded, and mscdex or shsucdx are also normally loaded:

XDVD2, 12-16-2018. CD/DVD name is MSCD001
No V2.0C+ PCI!
CD0: IDE0 Secondary-master, PCemCD, PIO
MSCDEX Version 2.25
Copyright (C) IBM Corp. 1986-1994. All rights reserved.
Drive D: = Driver MSCD001 unit 0

But it just can't read the CD content, and the following is displayed:

C:\>dir d:

CDR103: CDROM not High Sierra or ISO-9660 format reading drive D
Abort, Retry, Fail?

When using vide-cdd.sys or oakcdrom.sys, everything is normal. But for Jack's DVD driver, I have tried UIDE.sys, UDVD2.sys, all the same, even without himem.sys and any memory management, completely conventional memory. The CD image has also been changed several times, all are standard ISO9660 format, not Joliet or other DOS incompatible formats, all have errors. Can LZ please inform Jack to correct it.

There are also foreigners in the pcem forum talking about this problem. He uses freedos and the UDVD.sys inside.

I'm very sorry, it seems you only tested in an emulator, not on real hardware.

Jack Ellis's these drivers, to be used on real machines, are not targeted at the emulation environment. No matter how great and powerful the emulator seems, there are some differences from the real machine. These drivers were developed on real computers. Unless you find evidence of problems on real computers, I'm sorry, I can't assist.

Your website is very easy to have connection failures on the mobile network in my place, and it is very easy to have the connection reset.

I once encountered this situation when installing Windows 95 with Neko Project 12/W emulator, and finally solved it.

It can be opened, but requires a VPN.

The website can't be opened. It's estimated that it's blocked by the Great Firewall.

It's really a pity that Johnsonlam said that XDVD2 only supports real machines!

In today's situation where there are fewer and fewer old computers, it's really getting harder and harder to find a real machine like 386, 486, Pentium. The old real machines will definitely become fewer and fewer, and even completely disappear (now it's almost the case). In the future, when we want to be nostalgic about DOS, we should all use emulators or virtual machines. So I think the support of XDVD2 for emulators is still very crucial. Especially PCem, which is almost the same as the real machine, because it is based on hardware - level simulation, simulating various motherboards (such as the very early IBM PC/XT), sound cards (even AWE32 is simulated), and graphics cards (from CGA to SVGA). I think PCem will definitely be the main force for nostalgic DOS, Win3X and Windows9X/Me and other old operating systems in the future!

I don't know what Jack, the author of XDVD2, is thinking. As an author, he should very much hope to improve his work. Being compatible with emulators should be easier than real machines. After all, real machines are various and it's hard to collect comprehensive information. There are only a few emulators, and once solved, it's a one - time solution, and it's more valuable for the future. Besides, there are already many kinds of hosts built - in PCem for him to test.

Nowadays, how many people are playing DOS? They are all hardcore fans. Just look at how deserted it is here. Everyone comes here because of a trace of sentiment and nostalgia for DOS. Do we still need to distinguish between real - machine faction and emulator faction?

UMBPCI doesn't support the 430VX motherboard in Pcem either, but other motherboards are supported. Unlike XDVD2, all motherboards in PCem don't work. I contacted the author of UMBPCI, and the great god sent me a test version without hesitation. After successful testing, he quickly released version 3.88:

V3.88
- Intel 430VX with PIIX2 (for PCem)
