China DOS Union

Right now my DOS won't boot anymore, but using a boot disk works. My machine has only DOS, no other operating system. It has FOXPRO installed, and the application program used by my work unit (because nobody updates this industry software, we're still using DOS stuff to this day). There is some data in it; the data can be backed up, but I don't have the installation disks for the program we use, so I don't dare redo it lightly. If under the current circumstances I reinstall DOS, will the original things still work, such as UCDOS, FOXPRO,
etc.? Will they be affected?

The fault symptom is: before, when booting up it entered MS-DOS and showed the command prompt; now it's a screen full of garbling, like a virus. A coworker connected a hard disk with PC DOS installed to my machine, and when booting it was also like this. Later, after setting the PC DOS disk as the slave disk and my disk as the master disk, it entered normally. But after removing his hard disk, my hard disk showed the above problem.
Without touching the original data and operating programs, is it possible to safely reinstall MS-DOS? Experts, please advise. Thanks.

Of course you can. For example, you can directly install an “MS-DOS 7.10 full installation edition”; it won't damage any existing data.

Yeah... what version was your original DOS?
